Data Engineer (6-month Contractor, to FT Data Director position)

We are seeking a skilled Data Engineer to develop and manage a comprehensive, user-friendly Data Management and Monitoring System for Farm from a Box. This system will seamlessly integrate hardware functionality, IOT field data, and general farm management, providing farmers with actionable insights to improve efficiency, productivity, and market competitiveness. This role starts as a 6-month contractor position, with the objective of building the roadmap and MVP that can be scaled through a FT leadership role in Q1 2025. For the right candidate, this is an opportunity to put your Data Architecture skills to work and design and implement a co-developed data strategy that you can grow with and lead.

Qualifications:

  • Ideally, M.S. in CompSci or Data Science who can both customize/use existing AI/data models and develop a system around them. Proven experience in data architecture and software development, preferably within the agricultural sector.
  • Strong understanding of API integrations and real-time data monitoring.
  • Experience with centralized data platforms and web-based dashboards.
  • Ability to develop user personas, map user stories, and design ecosystem maps.
  • Familiarity with ESG scorecards and sustainability tracking is a plus.

Key Deliverables:

  • Conduct a system audit and build a comprehensive data dictionary.
  • Develop and implement a data management and monitoring system and centralized UX-friendly platform.
  • Develop and launch pilot MVP of the app and platform.
  • Create an ESG/ROI scorecard (with secondary goal to track SBTi & Climate Targets for B2B).

Planned Roadmap: While we have specific needs for this 6-month contract, we aim to co-develop a robust Data Strategy through this position, addressing our short-term needs and building a long-term plan as a team.
